Ron Kirk, Obama Pick as U.S. Trade Rep. - Didn't Pay Taxes -- So What Else Is New? - Obama Corruption Eruptions - Part 7

It's the gift that keeps on giving. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. The latest member of this not-so-excluive group of Obama staff picks that didn't pay taxes continues to grow.

As we at Neville have said over and over from Nov. 5, 2008, this will be the most corrupt administration in history.

You can now add former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk to the list of Obama Cabinet picks with tax problems. The Senate Finance Committee says he underpaid by $9,975 in the last three years.

The story continues below...

Kirk deducted too much for season tickets to the Dallas Mavericks, too much for tax preparation fees, and failed to report as income speaking fees that he donated to his alma mater, Austin College. Senate aides uncovered the shortfall during the vetting process. Kirk - the administration's designated point person on trade -- has promised to pay the Internal Revenue Service in full. How nice.

Bloomberg reports:

Kirk directly assigned speaking fees to Austin College in Sherman, Texas, his alma mater, about 16 times, according to the report. The committee staff, in conducting a review of documents submitted by the nominee, concluded that Kirk should have counted the $37,750 as income and then donated it to the college. As a result, Kirk will pay $5,800 to the Internal Revenue Service.

In 2005, 2006 and 2007, Kirk had season tickets to Mavericks games and deducted $17,382 of the cost as an entertainment expense. Kirk could substantiate to the committee staff only $9,900 as a business expense, and will pay $2,600 to account for personal use of the tickets, the finance panel said.

The rest of the $9,975 in back taxes concerned errors in assessing the value of donated items and in the accounting of tax fees, the panel said.

As usual Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont is right there to make excuses and prop up the latest Obama tax cheat nominee.

"Mayor Kirk is the right person for this job and I will work to move his nomination quickly. I am confident he can successfully restore the confidence of Congress and the American people in a balanced international trade agenda," Baucus said in a statement.

The White House shrugged off Kirk's tax problems as a "few minor issues" and said the nomination remains on track.

"We are confident that Mayor Kirk will be confirmed," said White House spokesman Ben LaBolt.

It's like a pre-recorded tax cheat nominee message gets turned on when one of these losers is exposed.

So let's review: This is excerpted from our report card on Obama's first month in office:

Obama has appointed pay-to-play tax cheats to his cabinet and staff including Sec. Treasurer Tim Geithner (confirmed), Tom Daschle who was forced to withdraw his name, Nancy Kilifer who was forced to withdraw her name, Bill Richardson who was forced to withdraw his name, and Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel who lived rent free for years in the home of Rep. Rosa De Lauro (D-Conn.) - and failed to disclose the gift, as congressional ethics rules mandate. This list will continue to grow.
