What do Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, and the Chinese Communists have in common? Besides being totalitarian thugs responsible for repression and death on a
mass scale, they are enabled and legitimized by their apologists and useful idiots in the United States.
From pet food recalls in 2006 to tainted toothpaste and massive toy recalls in 2007 the Chinese have shown themselves to be
unreliable business partners for U.S. companies who set up shop in that country. The latest company to have a problem is Graco, who's baby cribs have been found to be defective.
But who takes the blame? We do. In a stunning mea culpa Mattel CEO Robert Eckert blamed design flaws, not manufacturing flaws (the lead paint that
the Chinese use) for the problems in the toys that were recalled.
"It's the whole concept of guanxi -- cooperation -- and face saving," said Mark Allenbaugh, a lawyer who consults with companies doing business in China. "Mattel has developed
relationships over the years, with the factories and with government officials. That can all disappear
very quickly if Mattel went the other route and blamed the Chinese manufacturers as being the bad guys here." Sounds like blackmail to us. The moral of the
story is....DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH COMMUNISTS!!!
In Venezuela the New Left's latest darling Hugo Chavez has instituted his "Socialism for the 21st Century" by fixing artificially low prices
on 29 basic food items including milk, cooking oil, flour, canned tuna, eggs, beef and poultry. The obvious result is people who produce such goods for a profit are losing money.
and will probably go out of business.
The LA Times reported the story of dairy farmer Luis Espinoza, who is suffering under the new price controls.
Excerpted from the LA Times:
Espinoza's problem is he cannot produce milk at the low price -- 50 cents a liter -- that the Chavez government has set for it. Nor can most private ranchers. Espinoza and other producers complain that the artificially low prices are leading them to ruin.
The lifelong rancher says he is under more than just economic pressure. In Venezuela's increasingly polarized society, he says, for-profit farmers are made to feel like villains.
"The worst is the psychological impact of the uncertainty and the political confrontations," said Espinoza, 54, as he walked among a cluster of cows from his 600-head herd, down from 900 seven years ago. "There are hatreds and passions and family conflicts that didn't exist before."
One can only wonder where Sean Penn, Harry Belafonte and Cindy Sheehan are now that the Chavez time bomb may be coming home to roost. Sounds like
the new and improved "Socialism for the 21st Century" is really just the same old tired and wornout Marxist-Leninism of the 19th and 20th Centuries.
Now we come to everyone's favorite terrorist after Yassir Arafat, Iranian strongman Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Let's have a look at his resume.
What a guy...he's a rock star among the leftist/academia/journalism intelligentsia around the world.
- - Believes in the "12th Imam"...a Shiite guy who's been dead or hiding for 1000 years...he will return bringing vengeance to Islam's enemies, peace and justice to the world...and maybe toys for all of the good children.
- - Tortured the hostages taken at the U.S. Embassy in 1979.
- - Holocaust Denier
- - Hezbollah and Hamas financier
- - Financed and encouraged the Hezbollah proxy war in 2006 against Israel
- - He is behind arms shipments to Iraq and Afgahnistan that kill U.S. soldiers
- - Has called Israel a "stinking corpse" and promised to wipe it "off the map"
University of Columbia President Lee Bollinger is rolling out the red carpet for this clown prince of
terrorism. Bollinger, in announcing Ahmadinejad's upcoming appearance, described the event as part of
Columbia's "long-standing tradition of serving as a major forum for robust debate". What this really means is Columbia
is committed to it's tradition of appeasememnt. Mr. Tough-Guy Bollinger did say the Iranian
president had agreed to answer questions on Israel and the Holocaust.
What a well-intentioned naive fool the good President of Columbia is!! Bollinger is a classic useful idiot.
Pigs will fly before you get a straight answer out of Ahmadinejad.
The University of Columbia has a long rich history of appeasing this kind of scum.
From Little Green Footballs
Seventy years before this week’s invitation to Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Columbia rolled out the red carpet for a senior official of Adolf Hitler’s regime. The invitation to Iran’s leader may seem less surprising, but no less disturbing, when one recalls that in 1933, Columbia president Nicholas Murray Butler invited Nazi Germany’s ambassador to the United States, Hans Luther, to speak on campus, and also hosted a reception for him. Luther represented “the government of a friendly people,” Butler insisted. He was “entitled to be received ... with the greatest courtesy and respect.” Ambassador Luther’s speech focused on what he characterized as Hitler’s peaceful intentions. Students who criticized the Luther invitation were derided as “ill-mannered children” by the director of Columbia’s Institute of Arts and Sciences.
Columbia also insisted on maintaining friendly relations with Nazi-controlled German universities. While Williams College terminated its program of student exchanges with Nazi Germany, Columbia and other universities declined to do likewise. Columbia refused to pull out even after a German official candidly asserted that his country’s students were being sent abroad to serve as “political soldiers of the Reich.”
In 1936, the Columbia administration announced it would send a delegate to Nazi Germany to take part in the 550th anniversary celebration of the University of Heidelberg. This, despite the fact that Heidelberg already had been purged of Jewish faculty members, instituted a Nazi curriculum, and hosted a burning of books by Jewish authors. Prof. Arthur Remy, who served as Columbia’s delegate to the Heidelberg event, later remarked that the reception at which chief book-burner Josef Goebbels presided was “very enjoyable.”
No doubt security will be super tight for this event. Too bad there was no security on hand when Jim Gilchrist and the Minutemen
tried to speak on campus in 2006 and were shouted down and stage-rushed by the La Raza Leftists who, apparently, run things at Columbia.
This is an absolute disgrace. Lee Bollinger wins The "Useful Idiots, Fellow Travelers & Fifth Column" Neville Award for this kind of idiocy.
Neville postscript: Now that Mahmoud's appearance at Columbia has come and gone let's look at some of the
gems of genius spouted by the little dictator:
Mahmoud on 9/11 -- "If the root causes of 9/11 are examined properly - why it happened, what caused it, what were the conditions that led to it, who truly was involved, who was really involved - and put it all together to understand how to prevent the crisis in Iraq, fix the problem in Afghanistan and Iraq combined."
Mahmoud on women -- "The freest women in the world are women in Iran."
Mahmoud on executions of homosexuals in Iran -- "In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country. In Iran we do not have this phenomenon. I don't know who's told you that we have this."
Mahmoud on Israel's destruction -- "We love all nations. We are friends with the Jewish people. There are many Jews in Iran living peacefully with security."
Mahmoud on The Holocaust -- "I am not saying that it didn't happen at all. This is not that judgment that I am passing here. Why is it that the Palestinian people are paying the price for an event they had nothing to do with?"
