Another Ann Coulter Book -- Another Phony Controversy

When you are invested in defeat and surrender, as are the liberals and the Democrat Party, you have to do everything possible to show that you are not invested in defeat and surrender.

So what's a cowardly liberal to do? Attack the soft target - conservative media. It's easy, it gets you brownie points with the liberal base, and it lets you off the hook for not confronting the real threats to America. Any terrorist worth his salt will tell you it's easier to rack up "victories" by attacking women and children, churches, mosques, 100-story office towers...

Enter Media Matters. They are tasked with listening to prominent conservatives on radio and television and singling out phrases and comments that "prove" how un-American, bigoted or racist they are.

Most recently, we had the phony Bill O'Reilly and the Harlem soul food restaurant scandal. Having dinner with Al Sharpton, O'Reilly remarked on his radio show that the restaurant was like any other restaurant one might eat at. O'Reilly must, obviously, be a racist. Media Matters took the remark and manufactured a controversy calling for apologies and demanding that the show be taken off the air.

One week later we had the "phony soldier" remark by Rush Limbaugh on his radio show. Referring to Jesse Macbeth as a phony soldier because he misrepresented his service record, Media Matters took the remark and manufactured a controversy, calling for apologies and demanding that the show be taken off the air. Rush must be "anti-military." The Senate went so far as to officially condemn Rush Limbaugh....and excellent way to spend taxpayer dollars.

Are you seeing a pattern here?

When you are losing the war of ideas in the media try to get the people who are kicking your butt banned from the media. The Fairness Doctrine in practice. We call that fascism.

Recently Ann Coulter appeared on the MSNBC show "The Big Idea" hosted by Donny Deutsch (who?). Probably thinking he could actually get some attention for himself he spent the entire show baiting Coulter and trying to get her to say that she only says what she says to provoke and for the money.

Deutsch asked Coulter her idea of political perfection...her response was to have the Democrat Party "look like Joe Lieberman." But the comments that got all the libs in a twist was this one:

DEUTSCH: "Let's wipe Israel off the earth." I mean, what, no Jews?

COULTER: No, we think -- we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say.

DEUTSCH: Wow, you didn't really say that, did you?

COULTER: Yes. That is what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners --

DEUTSCH: In my old days, I would have argued -- when you say something absurd like that, there's no --

COULTER: What's absurd?

DEUTSCH: Jews are going to be perfected.

Anti-Semitic or pro-Christian? We at the Neville Awards don't really care. Coulter's written and oral record is very open and available. She is an American Patriot, very pro-Christian, very controversial...however we can't find anything that points to anti-Semitism.

The shit hit the fan anyway. Breathless condemnation followed from liberals and liberal Jewish goups.

Tim Rutten - Regarding Media -- LA Times Oct. 14, 2007

"Now, no Coulter promotional campaign would be complete without a calculated outrage -- a call for the forcible conversion of all Muslims, for example, or a demand for revocation of women's suffrage, an insult hurled at gays or the grieving widows of Sept. 11 victims. As more than one political consultant has remarked, the American far right is a carnivorous constituency, and it needs to be regularly thrown red meat. Coulter's singular genius has been to ignite tightly focused and timely controversies, thereby getting her ideological opponents to toss the scraps to her fans.

So if you know what's coming, why play ball and deliver the denunciation that validates the Coulter strategy?

In part, it's because this time Coulter didn't intend to ignite the firestorm that's currently raging around her; in part, it's because the implications of these latest remarks simply are too threatening to be allowed to stand."

The National Jewish Democratic Council called on broadcast news organizations not to give Coulter a forum. "While Ann Coulter has freedom of speech, news outlets should exercise their freedom to use better judgment," said council Executive Director Ira N. Forman. "Just as media outlets don't invite those who believe that Martians walk the Earth to frequently comment on science stories, it's time they stop inviting Ann Coulter to comment on politics."

Rabbi Marvin Heir, founder and dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, said that Coulter's "remarks that Jews needed to be perfected and America would be better off if everyone was Christian are deeply offensive and have been the classic language of anti-Semites throughout the millennia. She may have been a guest on CNBC's 'Big Idea,' but what she invoked is the oldest 'Bigoted Idea,' and she should apologize."

The Anti-Defamation League, which called Coulter's comments "outrageous, offensive and a throwback to the centuries-old teaching of contempt for Jews and Judaism. The notion that Jews are religiously inferior or imperfect because they do not accept Christian beliefs was the basis for 2,000 years of church-based anti-Semitism. While she is entitled to her beliefs, using mainstream media to espouse the idea that Judaism needs to be replaced with Christianity and that each individual Jew is somehow deficient and needs to be "perfected" is rank Christian supersessionism and has been rejected by the Catholic Church and the vast majority of mainstream Christian denominations. Clearly, Ann Coulter needs a wake-up call about the power of words to injure others and fuel hatred. She needs an education, too, about the roots of anti-Semitism."

Deutsch went onto NBC's "Today" show and called it "scary" that, in this instance, Coulter was not being deliberately provocative. "We're playing with dangerous words in our society -- there's no accountability, there's a glibness that we in the media kind of elevate."

Such self-righteousness, such anger...they are shocked....SHOCKED!!!

It's very sad when liberal Jews get in a twist about the Christian right and/or Ann Coulter. The real enemy is Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Queada and Iran. Would that the ADL's "Honest" Abe Foxman , the NJDC, and liberals and Democrats could have expressed the same level of outrage at Ahmedinijad's promise to wipe Israel off the map...or Jimmy Carter's remark that Israel is an "aparthied state"....or George Soros saying "European anti-Semitism is the result of the policies of Israel and the United States"...or the defiling of a Catholic service in San Francisco by the militant Gay Rights group "The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence", the perpetual wallpaper of the Gay Rights Parades.

The San Francisco story is not being covered by anyone but O'Reilly. If a synagogue had been similarly defiled you would see crocodile tears, feigned gnashing of teeth, wringing of hands and rending of clothes from our dinosaur media. If a mosque had received that treatment our media would be all over it and blood would be running in the streets from Morrocco to Pakistan.

In truth, the Christian Right seems to be the only friend American Jews and Israel have today. Liberal Jews continue to vote for Democrats and leftists seem to be the ones supporting groups like Jews for Palestine, International Answer (the well known Communist front)and self-hating jews like George Soros and Noam "Chumpsky". American Liberals like to think of themselves as the true saviors of the Jews (and every other aggrieved identity group) but it's not 1948 anymore and Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy and Johnson are long gone.

We at the Neville Awards wait breathlessly for the Senate condemnation of Ann Coulter.
